CORONOVIRUS UPDATE. (June 1st)

We take the safety of our driving instructors and you, our customers extremely seriously. We are adhering to the government advice and guidelines on when we can start to commence lessons once again.

We are receiving numerous requests from both our current customers and new enquiries regarding lessons and we are aware that some instructors and driving schools have commenced with lessons in contravention to the government’s strict Covid 19 criteria. Our view is that this practice is both highly irresponsible and that it could contribute to a second spike to the detriment of all of us.

We hope to begin taking bookings again some time in June and commence with lessons from the 6th July, however we are still waiting for the government to confirm this date. (We will update here immediately we have confirmation)

You are most welcome to Email or Message to make contact and we will offer you FREE access to Theory Test Pro so you are able to practice for your Theory Test and be ready as soon as practical lessons commence once again.

“I decided to go with Kelvin White Driving School after hearing only good things as I was not getting on with my current instructor.

Dave Peter gave me the confidence and skills that I needed to pass my test. I was very anxious but Dave always put me at ease and assured me that I could do it!

I couldn’t have passed without Dave’s tuition and I will be forever grateful to him and Kelvin White Driving school.”

You Ask – We Answer

Will i Drive On My 1st lesson?

Yes, you will definitely be driving on your first lesson.

If you are new to driving, your Instructor will drive you to a suitable location to get you started. It’s vital that your first few lessons are conducted in an area that will ensure your success and build your confidence.

Your Instructor will take a few minutes to record your licence details, test your eyesight and explain how to adjust your seat, head restraint and make sure you are comfortable.

He/she will then explain the controls that you will need to operate during your first lesson.

You will then be given a briefing on the move off and stop procedure with a short discussion to ensure you understand what is required. Your Instructor will then give you full talk through and guide you through your practical driving session. You will be able to learn at your own pace and your lesson will progress as and when you feel ready.

All your lessons will be structured using our unique ALS (Accelerated Learning System) to ensure you receive the maximum value for your money. Your early lessons will be in quiet areas, mainly on housing estates so you can build your confidence.

Full details on our unique Accelerated Learning System can be accessed by watching the main video on this page titled ‘Save Your Time and Money’.

Do You Offer A Block Booking Discount?

Yes, we do.

We suggest that if possible, you purchase a block of ten hours to benefit from the £20 discount. If for any reason you are not delighted with your instructor and your tuition, I will make a refund and any unused lessons purchased will also be refunded.

Full lesson pricing details can be found by clicking the ‘Lesson Prices’ button just above the four contact methods.

Do you offer 1 hour lessons?

You may be thinking of taking 1-hour lessons and Just to be clear and give you a balanced view, there is nothing wrong with 1-hour lessons, we just feel that they offer less value for your money as they prolong the learning period substantially.

Another of the drawbacks is having to take time from your lesson to drive to a suitable location that is relevant to cover the topic and then having to drive back again.

So, should you prefer to take less than two-hour lessons, we would not be the right driving school for you as we don’t offer them.

You have over 600 positive customer reviews, but about negative reviews?

We aim to be as transparent as possible and despite our best endeavours, when you have been providing driving lessons for over twenty years and taught thousands of students, there will be mistakes made and misunderstandings on both sides.

We raise our hands and if we have failed to deliver the best possible experience, then we are truly sorry.

We have trolled both Facebook and Google and gathered any negative reviews that we could find and have listed them below.

Do you offer a money back guarantee?

Yes, we do.

In fact, we offer an industry leading 9 Star Guarantee and I will offer you a refund on EVERY lesson you take unless you are delighted with both the tuition and service you receive.

You can access full details of the 9 Start Guarantee by clicking the ‘Learn More’ Button at the top of this page.

How much are your lessons?

Please click the Yellow ‘Lesson Prices’ Button just above the four ways you can make contact for full lesson pricing details.

Do you offer intensive or crash courses?

Please click the ‘Are we the right school for you’ Button for a full explanation of the services we offer.

Do you offer lessons in an Automatic vehicle?

Yes, we do in the Bridgwater and Taunton area.

Please click the Yellow ‘Lesson Prices’ Button just above the four ways you can make contact for full lesson pricing details.

How many lessons a week do you recommend?

We find that taking a 2-hour lesson every week, proves to be the most successful strategy for most students. Two-hour lessons would be far more beneficial to you. You will learn far more for your money and you will also be test ready in half the time. You will have a decent amount of condensed learning in one go with time to digest and be focused for your next lesson.

Sometimes students think that they would be unable to concentrate for a period of two hours, but this is why we would ‘chunk’ your lessons and break up the two hour slot to cover several topics, just as they do in the school curriculum to keep the learning fresh and focused.

Taking a regular weekly lesson has proven success as it provides continuity, the retention of knowledge and it will reduce your learning period. We will aim to offer you a regular lesson slot that you can book in advance and keep from the time you commence your lessons until you pass your test.

You will also be able to book more than one lesson slot per week should you wish to reduce your learning period and be test ready sooner. (Subject to instructor availability)

Do you offer lessons at weekends or just during the week?

Yes, we do offer lessons on Saturdays but not on Sundays unfortunately.

Saturday lessons are always in high demand and will be subject to availability.

How many lessons do you think I will need?

It’s almost impossible to know until you begin your tuition.

The DVSA suggest that the average is around 46 hours, but we find that most of our students are test ready much sooner. It really does depend on the individual, but our recommendation is to book ten hours of lessons and once completed, you will have a much better idea of the number of lesson you will need.

You can research further by watching the video on this website – Are we the right driving school for you?

Do you have female instructors?

Unfortunately, we don’t have any female instructors that cover the Bridgwater area at the moment.

What is your 1st time pass rate?

We are very proud of our 1st time pass rate and our instructors deserve a lot of credit for their hard work. Its impossible to give the exact % as we have tests almost every day and it will continually change.

Checking out the main video on this page ‘How To Choose Your Instructor’ will help you make the correct decision and avoid the costly mistakes that force over 30% of all local learners to change their instructor before reaching test day.

How long is the waiting list?

It really depends on when you would be available to take your lessons.

If you would like to contact us by using one of the four methods towards the top of this website with the days and times you are available, Andy or Sandra, who are our customer services staff will check and get back to you ASAP.

How come you are more expensive than others?

That is a very good question.

Most people wrongly assume that all driving instructors are the same!

I have produced several videos on this website to help you make the correct decision, avoid the costly mistakes and to avoid being one of the 30% of local learners that feel the need to change their driving instructor before test day.

Please check out the main video on this page ‘How To Choose Your Driving Instructor’. You will be glad that you did!

Do you teach people with learning difficulties?

Yes, we do but it will depend on the circumstances.

Our instructors do not pretend to be experts, or do they possess special training for certain disabilities. The best advice I can give is to contact our customer services and discuss your requirements, so they can attempt to match a suitable instructor.

Driving tuition might seem like a straightforward process that can be formulated and systematically applied to each student. In actuality, every individual pupil learns at different rates and with different teaching methods. When you are picking a driving school, steer clear of ‘one size fits all’ attitudes, as a good instructor should be able to adapt to all learning styles.

Kelvin White Driving School takes this a step further, by offering completely client-centred lesson plans. Not only are you not given a set lesson structure to work through, but you have the freedom to dictate when you progress, or whether you feel like a certain area could use more work. For instance, at Kelvin White Driving School, you will never be put under pressure to complete a task you don’t feel ready to do. Thr teachers pride themselves on being flexible and dynamic to deliver the best lessons for each respective pupil.

There are lots of factors to consider when you are making that all-important decision of which driving school to pick. Some people wrongly assume that the choice isn’t so important, as much as the work you are willing to put into learning. This is not the case. Your driving instructor can accelerate your learning, or they can actually impede it and set you back. When it comes to investing your own hard-earned money, or your parents’ money, into driving lessons, you want to make sure you aren’t flushing it down the toilet.

The instructor who is closest to your house may be tempting, but you may be surprised to hear that proximity doesn’t matter. In fact, most driving instructors will pick you up and drop you back off at your house for your lesson, provided they cover your area at no extra charge. Distance shouldn’t be a huge factor for this reason, but reviews and recommendations demand attention. Look at what previous pupils have to say – what were their favourite things about the instructor? If there are a large number of past students singing praises for the instructor, then you’re off to a good start.

Kelvin White Driving School boasts nine different fully-qualified driving instructors that are CRB-checked and registered for your complete peace of mind. There are male and female driving instructors (some women may feel safer being taught by another woman, and we respect that), and each of them has an individual section on the ‘Meet the Team’ page on their website. You can learn more about them from a short biography, and read what their students had to say. If you can’t find any feedback from past pupils, proceed with caution!

Kelvin White Driving School has been established since 2001, and is an experienced and trustworthy driving school with a well-earned reputation in the Taunton area. New drivers especially rate Kelvin White Driving School very highly, but licence holders may also enjoy taking a refresher course to revisit their driving skills. Most importantly, student success is at the forefront of what we do, and we hope that whichever driving school you opt for, that your journey in getting your licence pays off.

Kelvin White Driving School have been able to build a very reputable reputation for driving lessons in Taunton by providing customer centred lessons with a strong mission statement of customer success. They rely enormously on recommendations to keep their team of local instructors busy and are extremely grateful to their customers for the reviews they provide. Should you wish to check out the individual driving instructors and read what their customers have to say about them, then please visit the “Meet the Team in Taunton” page. I would like to wish you every success in your quest to obtain your full driving licence whether you choose Kelvin White Driving School as your training provider or one of our competitors.

The Taunton Area and Decription

The Taunton Area and Description.Taunton church

Taunton is the county town of Somerset and at the time of the 2011 census, the reported population was 64,621 but the current population is now expected to be substantially greater due to massive house building projects over the past few years. One of the most notable landmarks is the 10th century monastery (pictured left) and close by can be found the Anglo Saxon taunton castle. Pictured in the foreground is the County Ground, the home of Somerset cricket club. The town also has very close connections with 40 Commando – Royal Marines that are stationed nearby. Musgrove park hospital is one of the largest in Somerset and serves a population of around 340,000 with around 41,000 patients each year. Interestingly, the hospital was used by the US military during the second world war before the NHS took control in 1949.
